Bridging the divide

Motorcyclists are one of the most generous groups in society. You only have to surf the online forums to find a plethora of charity rides, toy runs or fundraisers - all for very worthy causes.

We are drawn together by our love of two wheels and we like nothing better than to stand around after a long ride, sharing a beer, comparing exhausts and coveting our mates new bling.

If we can do this whilst raising money for a charity, then it's an added bonus.

While most charity rides are run along club lines, there are occasions when Harleys will ride alongside scooters albeit with a healthy dose of good-natured rivalry.
The very passion that we show for motorcycling will inevitably lead to divisions within the community and we all know that the political arena can be a volatile place of overactive egos preventing us from being truly united.

However, nothing can bridge that divide faster than a mate in need.

If a member of a club has an off, the rally cry goes out and the support is exceptional. It is when this type of assistance is not available that the rider becomes vulnerable and the results can be tragic. Effects of an accident are felt long after being discharged from hospital - isolation from the riding community is a key factor.
Single males without family or club support are most at risk.

MARI - Motorcycle Accident Rehabilitation Initiative has been set up to survey fallen riders, collate the results, research the outcomes and explore the solutions.
Finally… a motorcycle charity started by motorcyclists, for the benefit of motorcyclists.
